Rev Jim Balija Installed As 19th Pastor

Following the January 15 Vicinage Council, Rev Jim Balija was officially installed as pastor of First.  The council is an ad hoc group formed by representatives of area Congregational churches.  Its purpose is to review and validate the results of the church's pastoral search.  Rev William O'Donnell, Pastor of Bethany Union Church acted as moderator of the council and Rev Steven Peay served as the scribe.  Churches from as far away as Galena IL and Wauwatosa WI came in fellowship. Eight churches were represented and the dialogue and question period proved most enlightening for all.  After a unanimous positive vote all processed into the sanctuary for a beautiful service.  Making mutual pledges of support and the promise to lead the community faithfully, preach the gospel, be merciful and bring healing to all, Rev O'Donnell extended the right hand of fellowship. 

The congregation celebrated this signal even with a wonderful dinner in the Mayflower Room.  Letter so congratulations from the White Robed Monks of St Benedict and the National Association of Congregational Christian Churches.  A beautiful red stole was the gift to Rev Jim from the Congregation and a special angel statue with the word "Peace" in gold leaf was presented to Mrs. Balija for sharing her husband with the community.

Dancing with Your Valentine

Join us on Saturday, February 12 for our Valentine's Day Dance.  Bring your best girl or guy and join us as we celebrate together.  DJ John Clark will spin CDs of your favorite tunes and our church family will provide the refreshments.  We start the festivities at 7 pm and will have you on your way back home at a reasonable hour.

Family Game Night Begins at First

You don't need a computer to have fun, come to First on Saturday, March 5 for the first family game night.  Whether you are a family of teens or toddlers you will enjoy the fun of competition and laugh your evening away.
